Het Ziekbed van Cú Chulainn

Dear Celts,

A while ago I received an e-mail from Asterix about the play "Het Ziekbed van Cú Chulainn" (Serglige Con Culainn / The wasting sickness of Cú Chulainn), directed by David van den Bosch (he's a Celt, right...? I am not sure) and performed by David's theatre group Kanalje. The premier date is June 10. They will be performing on June 10, 11 and 12 juni in Theater Kikker in Utrecht and on June 17, 18, 19 in De Laswerkplaats, Amersfoort.

This is their website: http://www.kanalje.shareyourstory.nl/

I think it looks pretty cool; Are any of you going? :)

Lecture + community stuff

Are any of you going to the lecture by Ann Dooley next Tuesday in Amsterdam?
I am going, and hoping to see some of you there :). It's really someone you won't see every day, and I think it's pretty cool she's coming to give a lecture in Amsterdam!

And I still haven't given up on this community yet!
Although I really need the help from you too. I need contributions from you!
So, if you want to share something about Celtic Studies, or about something else for that matter, please do. Maybe it would be nice as well to post Asterix-stuff here, as I am apparently not receiving very e-mail they send - I am often oblivious to the Asterix borrels while I would like to go to them.

blog bev?

Hi everyone,
Is this community still alive?

Nov. 16th, 2007

Hey, I'm Tric (better known by most of my fellow students as Patricia), I'm a first year Celt. I suppose you could say I'm studying abroad now, since I still hold an American passport, though I've made the Netherlands my home now. We'll see if the future holds a bit of time abroad at another university, though.
Being a first year, I haven't yet gotten my head around what I want to study in particular, though I would like a focus on Ireland, I think. (haha, yes, my name is a total give-away for that.) I've always enjoyed languages, and the interaction of cultures and how literature can reflect a society in a fun-house mirror sort of way.

Other interests include music, books, history, movies.. lots of things.

I'm glad to be part of this community, as I find I'm not as articulate when I speak in Dutch to people, so I'm much more quiet than I would normally be, and this gives me a chance to get to know some of my fellow Celts better!

Short Community Update

I've changed some lay-out things yesterday, and I think it looks pretty cool now :D. I just took one of the pre-made lay-outs, maybe I will try to create a custom-made lay-out one day :), but I think for now it's sufficient! Let me know what you think of it :).

Community update

Well hello, I've finally found the time to actually do some maintaining stuff in this community. I have updated the user info of the community and made a little listie new members (or members who haven't written their introduction yet!) could fill in. If you've already introduced yourself, it is not required of you to do it again with the new list, no worries ;-).

Furthermore, I'm still looking for some nice userpics and aredhel, I was wondering if I could use one of the Scotland photos you put on LJ a while ago? Some of the pictures of the landscape were truly enchanting and I think they would make beautiful user pics for our community!

So, once more a bit more life is kicked into the community, I will soon look into lay-out changes and stuff. But, one thing at a time ;-).

By the way, how would you all feel about making this community friends only? We might be able to talk more freely, and it might help people who do not feel comfortable about sharing their names and other stuff online.

Since everybody wrote such a nice introduction, and since I am human and men are sheep, I will follow the good examples.
My name is Lucinde, I am 20 years old, and like Ennys I am a third year student of Celtic Studies in Utrecht. Currently though, I am studying at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland, where I will spend the third year of my studies. And I am enjoying myself to bits! Although I like Celtic Studies in general, my main interest is Old Irish. I love to translate, it clears my head(that is, unless I am really stuck and can't find a word, than it frustrates me;)), but right now we're diving into Middle Irish grammar on the one hand and ogam on the other hand, and I love those things as well...
Next to my studies I am a passionate reader, fantasy, 19th century English novels and poetry mainly, and I like to write novels myself. I listen to a broad range of music, anything from sixties to hard rock. I have a terrible taste in movies, I'm very fond of romantic comedies and tearjerkers with a happy end, the sort of movies you have to eat chocolate cookies with. And I go to the pub on weekends, not unimportant;).
That's it really.

Hi all,

To follow the good example of Esther and Iris, I will introduce myself:

Off the web, I am known as Nely (though I do prefer my online nick Ennys), I am 20 years old and a third year student Celtic. I like linguistics as well as literature, but I think my greatest love is medieval literature (Cretien! Marie de France! YAY for seminar!!). And off course, there is Breton. I am really in love with the Breton language and culture. Planning to go to Rennes next year for an extra year of bachelor studies, and I can't guarantee I will be back after that year :-P
Like Iris I like translating very much, but the greatest fun to me is researching literature, searching for links, learn about performance in the middle ages, that kind of stuff.

I don;t really know what to tell more, so here it is :-)

Photos from Bonn?

I was wondering whether anyone has got photos from the Bonn conference that they'd be willing to share? I'm especially looking for

everlovingmoon's "Catching the academic atmosphere" photos, but I want lots and lots of them, so please?...
